Usain Bolt sets world record of 19.19 seconds to win 200M at world championships

Jamaican Usain Bolt set a new world record of 19.19sec in winning the 200m at the World Athletics Championships here on Thursday.

The new mark bettered his own previous record of 19.58sec set in the 200m final of the Beijing Olympic Games last summer.

Teeth clenched, Usain Bolt grimaced as he churned toward the finish line, hoping to coax a fraction more out of his 6-foot-5 frame.

The big, yellow numbers flashing another world record time told the Jamaican sprinter he had gotten what he wanted out of the 200 meters Thursday at the world championships.

Beyond the mark of 19.19 seconds, though, was something else — the fact that he is altering his sport.

"I'm on my way to being a legend," Bolt said, without a trace of arrogance.

Usain Bolt - New World Record 9.58

Usain Bolt of Jamaica has set the new 100m world record by running a 9.58 second run at the Track and Field World Championships on August 16 2009.

DPMM FC trio banned for violent conduct against match referee

Three players from a Brunei team have been kicked out of the Singapore League for an attack on the referee during a match earlier this month.

Croatian defender Rene Komar was banned for 15 months for punching the match referee in the August 2 clash between Brunei DPMM FC and Home United in Bandar Seri Begawan's Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

Komar's team mates Pg Sallehuddin Damit and Yusof Salleh were also handed bans by the Football Association of Singapore Disciplinary Committee.

All three admitted charges of violent conduct against match referee K Kalimuthu.

Skipper Pg Sallehuddin was banned for 12 months after admitting confronting Kalimuthu in "an aggressive and threatening manner", manhandling and shoving him in the 39th minute of the match.

Salleh was banned for six months for manhandling the referee.

Brunei lost the match 6-1. They currently lie fourth in the 12-team S. League with 40 points from 23 games and lie three points ahead of fifth-placed Home United.

The club could not be contacted but a report on its official website described the bans as "a nightmare" and said it would now require a miracle for the club to turn its league dreams into reality.

KUALA LUMPUR: Ketua kumpulan nasyid Rabbani, Asri Ibrahim, 40, meninggal dunia di Hospital Pantai, kerana sakit jantung.

Allahyarham yang juga penyanyi utama kumpulan itu dilaporkan pengsan ketika mengendalikan program Syahadah musim kelima di Angkasapuri, sebelum dikejarkan ke hospital berkenaan.

Sultan appoints first Bruneian Chief Justice

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday appointed Brunei's first local Chief Justice at a swearing-in ceremony at the Istana Nurul Iman, which marked a legal milestone for the Sultanate.

And it was not one but two as His Majesty also appointed the country's first woman Attorney General.

The appointment of Dato Seri Paduka Awg Hj Kifrawi bin Dato Paduka Hj Kifli, 56, as the Chief Justice was effective Tuesday, Aug 4, 2009 replacing Dato Seri Paduka Mohammed Saied, who had completed his term of appointment.

Meanwhile, by command of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Prime Minister's Office announced that His Majesty has consented to appoint Yang Arif Datin Paduka Hjh Hayati bte Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Hj Mohd Salleh, High Court Judge as Attorney General, effective Tuesday, Aug 4, 2009.
