History of Brunei Scout Movement.

In January 1933, Chegu Marsal bin Maun, a teacher at Sekolah Melayu Jalan Pemancha, Pekan (Jalan Pemancha Malay School) formed a scout troop with 12 boys. This was the first Scout troop in Brunei. Chegu Awang Zaidi bin awang Taha, headmaster of the school, who was also the head of the Education Department, became the Scout master and Chegu Marsal bin Maun was the Assistant Scout master. Thus scouting in Brunei began.

The Brunei Darussalam Scout Association was registered with the World
Organization of the Scout Movement in 1939. Then it was known as Persatuan Tempatan Negeri Brunei.

The Scout movement in Brunei was going on since then, and open there branch at Tutong District in 1936. While in Belait District was in 1940 and at Temburong District around 1974.
Since established in 1933, the Scout movement in Brunei Darussalam, going step further to national, Asia Pacific and international level.

In 1976, Scout movement in Brunei Darussalam was accepted as a member for Asia Pacific Region Scout movement (APR), and being accepted as a member No: 117 at World Organization of Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1981, at World Scout Movement at Dakar, Senegal. To commemorate for being member 0f WOSM, Brunei Darussalam Scout Association has choose every 1st of July, as a Brunei Scout Days. On 4th October 1981, Brunei Scout Association held a ‘Majlis Kesyukuran’ which held at ‘Dewan Persantapan, Dewan Majlis. His Majesty The Sultan attend the ceremony and further giving a appointment of Chief Scout to Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Paduka Haji Awang Hussein (now known as Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Paduka Dr. Haji Awang Hussein bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Mohd Yusof).

Furthermore, Brunei Scout movement also being accepted by International Union of Muslim Scout or IUMS, during IUMS conference held at Dakar Senegal in 1995.

The highest Honorary that Brunei Scout Movement receives was when, His Majesty the Sultan, received an appointment as a Honorary Patron for World Organization of Scout Movement. This appointment was held at Istana Nurul Iman on 1st November 1993, where World Organization of Scout Movement secretary general that time, Dr Jaques Moreillon himself gives the appointment letter to His Majesty The Sultan.

As the oldest NGO movement, Brunei Scout Movement in Brunei was ready in every challenges or task given to the movement, within national, Asia Pacific Region or International level.

This was prove that Brunei Scout Movement was given as a host for The 21st Asia Pacific Regional Scout Conference which held on December 2004 in Bandar Seri Begawan.
